Free agent Vince Young is looking for a job after not being re-signed by the Philadelphia Eagles after spending the 2011 season with the team. As far as Young is concerned, it’s because Andy Reid feels he’s too talented to be just a backup.
Bless his heart.
Young has received his first call from a potential suitor via the Buffalo Bills, who Young will work out for on Wednesday. Per the Buffalo News,
Young’s experience and great mobility could be attractive to Bills coach Chan Gailey. The Bills’ incumbent backup is Tyler Thigpen, who hardly played last year. He saw only mop-up duty in a loss at San Diego, completing 2 of 6 passes.
Fitzpatrick is entrenched as the Bills’ starter. If Young signed with Buffalo, he would become the favorite to beat out Thigpen for the No. 2 spot, based on his talent and experience.
Young’s time with the Eagles was less than stellar, arriving for one year after spending 5 seasons with the Tennessee Titans. VY most notably defeated the eventual Super Bowl-winning New York Giants (I still hate writing/saying/referring to this fact in any way) 17-10 in Week 11. VY threw 4 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and was sacked 8 times in 6 games (he started in 3) in Philadelphia.
Should Young get the job in Buffalo, he would backup Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills were 6-10 in the 2011 season.
While we’re on the subject of Young, I’ve been waiting for the appropriate time to share this nifty photo of VY’s back tattoo, which is courtesy of Black Sports Online. Now feels like the right time.
You know you love it.
