Morning Muse: Eagles teammates have faith in Nick Foles

Morning Muse MugIt’s the last day of 2014, and the Philadelphia Eagles are already settling into the reality of the offseason. After their 34-26 win over the Giants on Sunday, all was said and done for their season. The team once again found itself with a 10-6 record, but this time with no playoff berth. So, instead of cheering on the Birds, our joy this weekend will be rooting for the Detroit Lions to crush the Cowboys.

Dem is the breaks.

Black Monday in the NFL left a number of head coaching vacancies around the league. One team has its eyes on Pat Shurmur as a possibility to lead its beleaguered franchise. – Birds 24/7

A number of key players on the Eagles–including Nick Foles, Mychal Kendricks, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Boykin–have their rookie deals up this year. Who should be offered contract extensions? – The 700 Level

Will the new year see new deals for starts Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy? Chip Kelly: “Do I want LeSean back? Yeah. Do I want Jeremy back? Yeah. Is that the reality? I don’t know.” – Philadelphia Inquirer

An integral part in the decisions for Maclin and McCoy is, of course, the salary cap. Fortunately, the Birds find themselves in a good spot in that regard. “The Eagles will carry over $15,757,296 in salary cap space from the 2014 offseason, the third-highest figure in the National Football League.” – Bleacher Report

While you and I may wonder if Nick Foles is truly the future of the Eagles franchise, but many of his teammates are sold on the QB. No need to look any further: “We know what we have in Nick. I think management knows what they have in Nick. He’s a franchise quarterback.” – CSNPhilly
