The Philadelphia Eagles disclosed their “cut day” moves hours ahead of the NFL’s 4 pm deadline on Saturday, and the names of the players waived by the team held little surprise, though the biggest news was the ousting of struggling kicker Alex Henery. The Philadelphia Eagles filled the roster spot left vacant by Clay Harbor’s trip to IR by signing tight end Evan Moore on Thursday.
Moore (6-6, 250) was with the Seattle Seahawks for most of the 2012 season, playing in 14 days before being released on December 19 after an unimpressive season–Moore had just 1 catch for 6 yards this year. Continue reading ‘Philadelphia Eagles sign TE Evan Moore’
Linebacker Adrian Moten was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles last week in hopes that he would help address the coverage woes on special teams that led to the release of Brian Rolle.
After just one week, the Birds are on to another plan.
Moten played 16 snaps on special teams in Pittsburgh on Sunday and didn’t record a single tackle. Accordingly, he was cut by Philadelphia on Tuesday. In his place, the team signed Jason Williams (6’1, 244), who played 28 games with Carolina (2010-12) and Dallas (2009-10). Williams was a 3rd-round draft pick by Dallas out of Western Illinois who in his time in the NFL has posted 36 tackles, 28 special teams tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
In 2011, Williams led the Panthers with 15 tackles on special teams along with a forced fumble, and added 21 stops on defense. He was cut from the team with final roster cuts this year.
Will the Williams signing bring the Eagles the help with special teams coverage that they urgently need? We’ll soon find out.
Linebacker Brian Rolle had an uphill battle heading into the 2012 season to prove his value on the team and it is one that he ultimately lost. The Eagles announced that Rolle was cut on Tuesday and in his place signed Adrian Moten.
Just before the start of the season Rolle lost his job as Philadelphia’s starting weakside linebacker to Akeem Jordan. Rolle vowed that he would make it back and tried to use the setback as inspiration to push him to work that much harder to succeed.
But his efforts were not enough to save his spot on the team. Continue reading ‘Just didn’t cut it: LB Brian Rolle released by Philadelphia Eagles, Adrian Moten signed’
The Philadelphia Eagles signed four familiar names to their practice squad on Saturday: TE Chase Ford, FB Emil Igwenagu, WR Marvin McNutt, and LB Ryan Rau. All players were previously a part of the roster before the team’s NFL mandated cut to a 53-man roster on Friday. League sources also say that DE Frank Trotter has been signed to the PS, according to CSNPhilly.
C Chase Beeler is a new name (6-3, 285) signed to the team. He spent last year on the 49ers practice squad and was center to this year’s #1 draft pick Andrew Luck at Stanford. Continue reading ‘Eagles sign 5 to practice squad including McNutt, Rau’
