Chip Kelly to stay at Oregon; Who’s the next target for the Philadelphia Eagles?

It was an eventful weekend in the NFL’s coaching carousel that ultimately left the Philadelphia Eagles exactly where they started–still in need of a head coach.

On Friday, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly was said to be close to a deal with the Cleveland Browns, but everything changed when he met with the Eagles brain trust for a lengthy nine- hour meeting on Saturday.

Was Jeffrey Lurie about to steal the #1 choice of his once close friend and former business partner Joe Banner and the Browns? It seemed like it could happen. But Kelly never hid his lack of enthusiasm for joining the NFL, and ultimately the trio of Lurie, Howie Roseman and Don Smolenski knew that any decision would have to  outweigh Kelly’s love of coaching at Oregon.

For the second year in a row, that did not happen. On Sunday, Kelly decided that he would stay in the college ranks. Continue reading ‘Chip Kelly to stay at Oregon; Who’s the next target for the Philadelphia Eagles?’

Andy Reid’s agent brings weekend drama to Eagles training camp

At Philadelphia Eagles  training camp in Bethlehem this weekend came a reminder that it’s not just players who have their futures at stake at camp and during the upcoming season.

Head coach Andy Reid’s agent, Bob LaMonte, also showed that it’s not just player agents who pull stunts at camp.

During a visit to camp on Saturday, LaMonte pow-wowed with reporters as if it was the most natural thing for him to do, making the assertion that team owner Jeffrey Lurie has said to him that as long as he is the team’s owner, Andy Reid would be the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. The specific verbiage was that Lurie Continue reading ‘Andy Reid’s agent brings weekend drama to Eagles training camp’

Live from Lehigh: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie the MVP of first Philadelphia Eagles practice in pads

Saturday marked the first appearance of pads at Eagles training camp in Bethlehem, and the excitement on the part of both fans and players was tangible.  Philly Sports Muse ventured to Lehigh University for a first-hand look at this Eagles squad.

The fact that there is still a good deal of work to be done before the first preseason game against the Steelers in 11 days and the start of the start of the regular season on September 9th against the soon-to-be Joe Banner co-owned Cleveland Browns a month after was apparent. But so was the fact that there is a lot to be excited about with this team.

The worst news of the day was the broken collarbone suffered by wideout Riley Cooper in a play that saw him going up against Curtis Marsh. At the end of the play Cooper was clearly in pain, ultimately needing to be carted off the field. It was supposed to be a camp to start a big year for Cooper, but unfortunately his promise for this third season with the team will have to wait to reveal itself until the injury heals. Philadelphia Eagles: It’s Always Football Season in Philadelphia

It’s mid-June and the Eagles are a hot topic on sports radio. Sure, right now it’s because of the front office shakeup that removed former team president Joe Banner from his position with the team last week. But football talk dominating the offseason is nothing unusual in this town. Think I’m exaggerating? Ask yourself this question: Just how far are you from a hearing a spontaneous group of Philadephians erupt into an “E-A-G-L-E-S” chant? The passion is deep and is there year-long.
