Chip Kelly adds to swirl of DeSean Jackson trade rumors

Will DeSean Jackson continue to fly as an Eagle through 2014?

Will DeSean Jackson remain a Philadelphia Eagle through the 2014 season or won’t he? Getting a clear answer to this question is growing stranger—and more exhausting–by the day.

Reports of the Birds’ interest in trading the talented receiver, coming off the best season of his career, have not been clear or consistent. Jackson netted over 1300 years in 2013 and pulled in 9 touchdowns. It is hard to comprehend, then,  why the Eagles would be so willing to part with such a valuable part of Chip Kelly’s offense.

Philadelphia Eagles Trade Asante Samuel to the Falcons for 7th-Round Pick

Well, they did it. The Eagles traded Pro Bowl CB Asante Samuel before the start of the 2012 NFL draft.

The Atlanta Falcons finally got a deal done with Samuel, working out a 3-year, $18.5 million dollar deal for the 31-year old corner. This detail was the first to emerge when news of the deal came down on Wednesday afternoon. What took longer to learn was what the Eagles received in compensation from the Falcons for Asante.

Those who were thinking a 6th-rounder were aiming too high. Sensing the Eagles’ desperation to offload Samuel, Atlanta offered a whopping 7th-round draft pick to Philadelphia. Falcons Interested in Trading with Eagles for Asante Samuel

If the lead up to the NFL draft hasn’t provided you with enough drama and intrigue over the past several days, there is always the continuing quest of the Philadelphia Eagles to trade Pro Bowl corner Asante Samuel.

With less than 48 hours to go before the draft, multiple teams have expressed interested in doing a deal with the Eagles for the 31-year old Samuel. Among them is the Atlanta Falcons, whose interested has heated up to the point that they are negotiating with Philadelphia and Samuel, per several reports.

Similar to the situation a few days ago with the Denver Broncos, who expressed interest in Samuel, the holdup to the present situation seems to be Asante Samuel’s demands for salary.  Though Samuel has indicated a willingness to rework his deal, he reportedly seeks to keep most of the $10 million he is due for the 2012 season, per Jeff MacLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Falcons have likely offered the Eagles a late-round draft pick for Samuel, similar to the earlier offer received from Denver.
